Distant Camera

We’re leaving Lyon tomorrow and I’ve been in a turmoil trying to uncover something in the threads of my drawing.

I’ve taken a lot of photographs here as a kind of rehearsal for drawing. The photographic image and the scene it portrayed was always useless to me as an aid to drawing. Until the way the camera sees became the way into the subject, where light burns out the edges of tonal shapes delivering them as bits and pieces to be re-formed in the drawing process.
